“After The Rains” Original Oil Painting

Hello Everyone.

Here is a new original oil painting I have titled "After The Rains"

Can you feel the wetness in this scene? I am not even talking about the wetness of the river. As I was painting this composition, it started taking on a life of its own. My inner artist was trying really hard to come out and play, I guess. After many years of painting, I have learned, when your inner artist wants to come out, let him. It will only make your art better.

So, I kind of stepped aside, so to speak, and allowed my inner artist to do its thing. As the composition was developing, I noticed how lush everything was starting to look. Obviously the water element will have that look, but even the back ground forest had a bit of lush wetness to it. It reminded me of being outside right after a drenching spring rain. I can almost smell the clean rain soaked air even now.

Once I saw where my inner artist was taking me, I decided to go with a subdued color scheme. I still wanted my colors to look deep and rich, but I wanted to avoid the in your face bold colors that some of my paintings have. This painting needed to be calming.

Whenever I paint, I start to get involved with the painting. Part of it making up stories as my inner artist takes over the composition. Every landscape has a story to tell. The stories do not have to be elaborate or life changing, they just need to be there. A painting without a story is a waste of time which is why I name my paintings. In many ways, the name of my paintings is the title to the story I want to tell.

This story is easy. The nourishing rains have fallen on the lands creating a beautiful and peaceful day.

Until next time
