New Oil Painting
Hello Everyone,
I hope all of you are having a safe and wonderful start to the new year. I know I am. I spent much of New Years Day applying to 2025 art shows in Illinois.
It’s funny, most juried art shows start taking applications in the December before the new show year, but for some reason, all om mine were not available until January 1st. It really doesn’t matter. Of the ten shows I applied to, I have experience with the production company and their shows of all but two.
I have a new product, yet the same I am unveiling for the 2025 shows. Yes, I am still using my Griffin Alkyd Oil Paints and yes, I am using Gessobord by Ampersand. The difference is the cradle depth of the gessobord. I normally use the 1/8” thick. I have nine new pieces I am introducing the first quarter of this year with a 3/4” depth cradle.
I realize that does not seem to be much of a difference, but believe me, it is.
First of all, the cradle is made from a beautiful birch plywood that will give the entire painting a little bit more of a finished look. Just like the 1/8” it can be hung on the wall as is for a sleek, modern look. Since the cradle is only 3/4”, it can also be framed, which I do not recommend simply because the wood edges look really cool, especially since I use an American Walnut wood stain on the edges. They really look good on the wall.
So, I have had very good success selling my work with the 1/8” depth, so why change? Simple, I want to give my clients a bigger choice. Ampersand also has a 1 1/2” and a 2 1/2” depth cradles, but to me, they are much too heavy. If all goes well, I will be sticking with the 1/8” and 3/4”.
The surface I paint on as well as the paint I use is professional which means it is archival and light fast.
Have A Blessed Day My Friends
